ADTRAN Adds Cloud-Ready BYOD Suite
ADTRANs solution features a cloud-based, virtualized approach to scaling wireless LANs.

ADTRAN Inc. announced Wednesday its BYOD Network Suite to enable businesses to handle the network demand created by employees bringing their own Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the workplace.
ADTRAN estimates BYOD will results in a 2x-3x increase in the number of mobile devices competing for bandwidth. Available through its channel partners, ADTRANs solution combines Ethernet routers and switches with its cloud-based, virtualized approach to scaling the wireless LAN infrastructure to handle the surge in traffic. The suite can be deployed as an integrated solution or in a Blend-and-Extend” approach.
The centerpiece of the solution is ADTRANs Bluesocket virtual WLAN (vWLAN), the industrys first cloud-enabled, VMware-based WLAN solution, which eliminates the scale and cost restraints of traditional controllers. A single instance of Bluesocket vWLAN can support 48,000 users and 1,500 APs, with 10X increase in bandwidth. In addition, the Bluesocket vWLAN solution offers centralized, unified user access control of all users through Bluesocket Access Points (APs), wired ports or even legacy APs.
The Bluesocket vWLAN also takes advantage of intelligent APs that offer enterprise-class authentication, encryption and RF intrusion-detection to eliminate unwanted traffic before it enters the LAN, ensuring wireless security over the air and at the network edge.
The vWLAN can be paired with ADTRANs routers and switches. The NetVanta line of routers features RapidRoute technology, built-in encryption features and multiple backup options for higher throughput and security of sensitive corporate data. ADTRAN also offers business-class, managed Gigabit Ethernet switches support quality of service and class of service required for real-time latency-sensitive applications like voice.
In addition, ADTRAN offers a range of NetVanta Unified Threat Management security appliances that offer real-time gateway protection, firewall and application-level intelligence and control to detect and eliminate external threats coming in via the Web.
