BroadSoft Inc. has rolled out a platform that lets service providers create their own custom-branded application stores, populated with a selection of third-party applications that seamlessly integrate voice with Web 2.0, mobility and social networking.

The e-commerce-enabled Broadsoft Marketplace allows end users to directly browse and easily purchase communications applications from the BroadSoft Xtended mash-up program, which gives developers access to the company’s VoIP platform. Developers can onboard their applications to the Marketplace to gain access to BroadSoft’s global customers that reach more than 500 million subscribers.

Currently in beta phase, the Marketplace has already attracted early adopters from its global customer base. Comporium, SimpleSignal, Telesphere and WorldxChange comprise the first wave of operators that will introduce application stores by the first quarter of 2010.

“A significant milestone in the IP communications industry, the launch of the BroadSoft Marketplace completes the final phase of our three-pronged strategy for Xtended-technology, community and commerce,” said Leslie Ferry, vice president of marketing at BroadSoft. “Starting with RESTful Web services to attract the mainstream developer, we created a vibrant community of developers, which can now be sustained through commerce through the Marketplace.”

The first applications and services ready for purchase include:

  • SpinVox Voicemail-to-Text – a monthly subscription-based service that converts voicemail messages to text and forwards them to a user’s e-mail inbox, enabling faster response times and easy message management

  • Quickset Pro from JoeDeveloper – a downloadable application based on Adobe Air technology that manages a host of BroadWorks call functions, such as sequential ring, speed dial and remote office

  • Mobile Max Enterprise Edition – a downloadable mobile unified communications client that allows routing of mobile calls through BroadWorks and access to key call functions (e.g., Do Not Disturb, Call Forward) from a mobile handset
