LayerX Technologies has developed a new tool to help IT managers and service providers manage unified communications services in private-cloud environments.

prism, the latest offering in LayerXs Arbitrator network management family, enables network managers to monitor, analyze, diagnose and resolve issues with VoIP and other related applications and network devices in real-time. The software provides metrics associated with convergence management such as jitter, latency, packet loss and trunk reports, as well as synthetic call metrics that proactively notify of and isolate problems with the application. Network managers can set up smart alerts based on those metrics to detect problems and set up automatic responses based on their best practices.

The technology supports multi-vendor VoIP environments and supports Cisco Systems, Avaya and legacy Nortel systems. In addition to monitoring for issues on the network, prism monitors trunk utilization and provides real-time call detail records. It offers integrated VoIP call path analytics that enables users to analyze calls by source and destination.

Managed services providers can use prism not only for basic management of their end users VoIP systems, but also to ensure their own networks are able to handle the heavy traffic produced by VoIP and unified communications systems.

prism is managed through an alarm-board interface that allows MSPs to organize alarms by client and filter by severity so they can proactively manage their customers. prism, along with Arbitrator, offers a comprehensive network management solution that MSPs can private-label to provide their end-user customers a unique view into their networks performance.

LayerX allows service providers to see deeper into their customer environments, as well as provides a highly scalable solution for monitoring multiple customer’s networks from a single stateful view in real time,” said Mike Kay, vice president of business development at LayerX. Our comprehensive alarm card view allows the managed service provider to organize alarms by client, and filter by severity, allowing them to focus on what matters most. Also, our secure connect-through allows service providers the option to connect directly to the clients device without disruption of service through a secure TLS tunnel to perform diagnostics and problem remediation on the fly.”

Kay noted that LayerX technology is deployed in several major MSP environments, each with hundreds of clients running on the layerX solutions.”
