Wholesale network services provider Nitel Inc. has released a new mobile app for telecom agents using Apples iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
Nitel, which specializes in Ethernet/MPLS and private line products, said on Thursday its mileage calculator and telecom database search tools now are available through the App Store. The calculator and search function provide immediate access to carrier, rate center, operating company number and CLLI code data nationwide so agents can give clients on-the-spot quotes. That adds up to shorter sales cycles, Nitel said.
With agents on the road as much as they are, having a way to qualify opportunities via a mobile application just makes sense,” said Tim Basa, Nitels vice president of sales and marketing. This tool is further proof of Nitels commitment to the telecom channel.”
Heres how it works: For IP services, users submit an area code and exchange (NPA-NXX) to calculate distance from a central office to the nearest point of presence (PoP). This lets Nitels agents and wholesale users qualify locations for pricing purposes. The distance to the PoP determines a significant pricing component of a circuit, Nitel said.
For private-line services, the tool also calculates the inter-office channel mileage between the two PoPs.
For all Nitel services, the app gives the name of the carrier that owns the NPA-NXX, the CLLI code for the rate center, OCN and switch type. Nitel further said its proprietary database indicates whether Ethernet services are available from that serving wire center.
Finally, users can request quotes from Nitel through the mobile app agents only have to register their information once.
And even though the app was designed for Apple devices, agents without an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad still can use the tool, although on Nitels website.
Nitel is a virtual network operator based in Chicago, with offices in Georgia, Nevada and Wisconsin.
