Master agency PlanetOne on Monday named tw telecom its preferred vendor for 2012, thanks to a new alliance between the two companies.

Effective immediately, PlanetOne agents may sell tw telecom’s full line of services, including business Ethernet and managed services. The announcement marks a shift for the channel. After several acquisitions, tw telecom several years ago limited its channel distribution, severing a number of subagent relationships and selling only through a few master agents. Partnering with PlanetOne will expand tw telecom’s reach to business customers nationwide.

“Our alliance with PlanetOne gives us access to some of the channel’s savviest and most successful agents in the country,” said Dale Kammerich, tw telecom’s channel chief. “With the training and support we offer, everyone wins. We’re pleased to be on board with this dynamic master agency.”

Colorado-based tw telecom specializes in facilities-based communications for enterprises and other carriers; it owns more than 27,000 route miles of fiber and connects about 15,500 “on-net” commercial buildings. The provider also operates 75 sales and services offices throughout the country.

“tw telecom has the financial stability and market leadership that our agents are seeking,” said Ted Schuman, president and founder of PlanetOne. “We’re going places together.”
