Riverbed has announced a new version of their Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS). The update is focused on WAN optimization solutions and more flexibility when building public, private and hybrid cloud environments. Riverbed is putting a particular emphasis Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint acceleration. Read on to find out all the details about version 6.1…
Here’s the quick rundown of what RiOS 6.1 is bringing to the table:
New optimizations for Lotus Notes 8.5
New optimizations for Microsoft Suites like Exchange 2010, Share point and Microsoft Online for Sharepoint, and Exchange
Enhancements for disaster recovery performance.
Riverbed say that companies struggling with Microsoft Exchange performance over WAN will want to give RiOS 6.1 a look, since they’re claiming they’ve improved latency issues with encrypted and un-encrypted Exchange 2010 traffic, claiming data reductions at 95%.
RiOS 6.1 is designed to accelerate traffic at the network layer and the application layer, which makes unnecessary round trips with SharePoint disappear, and allows Riverbed’s Steelhead appliance to apparently optimize response times by up to 50%. 6.1 is also bringing Layer 7 application acceleration to the table, which will also parlay into optimized performance for Microsoft’s cloud-based services.
Lastly, replication traffic over WAN is boosted in RiOS 6.1, and allows for storage optimization and data recovery boost between data centers. This is brought to you, in part, from partnerships with Dell, EqualLogic, Double-Take Software, HP, IBM, NetApp, Symantec and Hitachi.
The bottom for VARs and partners is that they can add more value simply by offer upgrade packs that will — according to Riverbed — immediately show an improvement without actually having to buy all new software and hardware, and all with zero performance issues.
