Verizon‘s CEO isn’t bashful when talking about his company’s wireless network.

Lowell McAdam told attendees at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference that Verizon’s network is a year ahead of AT&T’s and three to four years in front of Sprint’s and T-Mobile’s, according to a Wireless Week article. That’s despite recent independent studies that put AT&T on a par, if not ahead, of Verizon in terms of LTE speeds. Big Red is still considered to be the leader in reliability, RootMetrics recently noted.

Verizon this year completed its 4G LTE rollout and is starting to think about 5G technologies most notably to keep up with the demand from mobile video, McAdam said. But monetizing its LTE offering remains a main focus right now. He told the Sachs conference that Verizon is excited about machine-to-machine (M2M) opportunities in verticals such as energy, automotive and health care areas where mobile has seemingly boundless growth.

Verizon last month agreed to pay $130 billion for Vodafone’s 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless, making Verizon the sole owner of VzW.
