Absolute Software Brings Extended BYOD Security to Market

Endpoint security and management solutions provider Absolute Software (ABT) released Absolute Manage 6.5 this month, offering BYOD support for Apple (AAPL) Mac and Microsoft (MSFT) Windows computers. With Absolute Manage 6.5, organizations will have the ability to secure and manage their employee-owned devices with additional functionality than previous solutions, all through a single pane of glass.

“Employee-owned devices, when supported with the appropriate security and management infrastructure, can have a tremendously positive impact on user productivity and satisfaction,” said Geoff Haydon, CEO at Absolute Software, in a statement. “Absolute Manage 6.5 extends traditional BYOD workflows to include all of the different devices an employee may own—not just smartphones and tablets.”

With Absolute Manage 6.5, companies will be able to maintain control over their corporate data for the majority of form factors and operating systems no matter who owns the particular devices in question, according to the company. Control of sensitive data lies with the organization, ensuring that only devices with correct permissions are allowed to access corporate networks. By extending BYOD capabilities with version 6.5, Absolute is looking to provide IT with the first instance of a single management console to simplify the complexity of their device management responsibilities.

Absolute Manage 6.5 will also support Samsung KNOX Workspace, giving users additional platform security for their hardware and software integrated security foundations, according to the release. The addition of KNOX is expected to give users the ability to allow admins to remotely view service issues on their Samsung mobile devices as well as grant remote access to fix the problem in real time. Samsung released KNOX 2.0 in February.

Last month, Absolute Software announced that Geoff Haydon had been appointed as the company’s latest CEO, where he will be charged with driving the company’s global business efforts and stabilizing its current leadership.
