The Client

The client is a member of the banking industry.

The Challenge

The client was facing increasing pressure from its workforce to leverage mobile technology to increase business. The bank had a number of concerns about taking business to an outside environment: Would they supply the devices? Would the bank allow personal devices to be used (BYOD)? If so, what standards would need to be in place for those devices? Overall, what controls needed to be in place in order to adequately manage the new risk these devices were introducing to the bank?{ad}

The Solution

Solis started with a risk assessment of using mobile devices for business purposes that weighed the risks, costs and benefits associated with bank-supplied devices vs. employees’ personal devices. The client chose to leverage personal devices and Solis provided a mobile device management platform based on the client’s existing investment in Cisco Meraki. The client wanted a simple solution that effectively deployed the policies and controls they wanted without being overly intrusive to the employee or degrading the employee’s experience on their device. Solis was able to complete the backend configuration and deploy the software over a period of two weeks; this included training 50 employees on what the software did and didn’t do. Employee buy-in was a requirement and we made sure that happened before, during and after the installation.

The Results

The biggest win for the client was that they addressed a need their employees identified as being crucial to meeting their productivity goals and were able to maintain the level of network and data security they required. And employees who use the devices now have more flexibility and time in dealing with customers, resulting in a positive growth rate in new account sales and loan closings. Customer data is as secure as it would have been provided within the bank’s physical plant, and employees using mobile devices have about doubled the revenue they were able to produce before.
