Crossbeam and Sophos are teaming up for real-time email security. The partnership targets enterprise customers and service providers. Crossbeam now has relationships with roughly half-a-dozen well-known security companies. Here’s a closer look at the Crossbeam-Sophos relationship and potential implications for managed services providers…

Quick refresher: Crossbeam provides hardware that virtualizes security applications; the solution is designed to free up rack space and consolidate network devices. Crossbeam says they can consolidate 50 security appliances on to one single chassis, too. All with the redundancy and reliability needed to function in an enterprise environment, the company claims.

Sophos is jumping on board with the Crossbeam’s X-Series by delivering their e-mail security gateway software PureMessage onto Crossbeam’s rails. PureMessage is a proactive e-mail filtering software that fights spam, malware and other security threats. Watch for a certified PureMessage offering on the X-Series to debut around Q3 2010. Crossbeam says you can find out more on the partnership at their site.

Sophos certainly has been active in recent months. Channel Chief Chris Doggett launched a managed services partner program in May 2010. Doggett has also assured partners that Sophos will remain channel-centric following a private equity firm acquiring Sophos in early May 2010.

Meanwhile, Crossbeam has security-related partnerships with a range of companies including Check Point, Sourcefire, IBM, Imperva, Trend Micro and Websense.
