D-Link Adds New Wireless Controller to Unified Wireless Portfolio

D-Link has released its new Unified Wireless Controller DWC-2000, a centralized wireless LAN manager that allows users to support up to 256 access points per controller. The controller can support up to 1,024 access points in a controller peer group, making it a potential option for medium to large enterprises and for customers with a large number of users.

The DWC-2000 features self-healing and organizing capabilities to increase the stability of the network in use. The controller automatically tunes radio channels to avoid interference and optimize network bandwidth while boosting the transmission output power of neighboring access points for expanded network performance, according to D-Link.

“Unlike competing solutions that require the purchase of additional licenses to manage even one access point, the DWC-2000 supports 64 access points right out of the box,” said Steven Olen, director of product marketing, D-Link Systems, in a statement. “For larger installations greater than 64 APs, we do offer licenses that increase support for up to 256 APs per controller.”

The DWC-2000 also features auto-managed AP Discover and single-point management to allow administrators more easily configure their networks. The controller comes equipped with a wireless intrusion detection system (IDS) to detect unwanted clients and access points, with a captive portal to quarantine unknown users from accessing the network until their information is verified. Guest user account generation allows users to manage guest user bandwidth and access to network resources, according to the announcement.

The DWC-2000 will is available through D-Link’s channel partners for $2,699.99.
