Dell has hired HP and Intel veteran Marius Haas as president of Enterprise Solutions. Hass will oversee Dell enterprise products including servers, networking and storage systems. In essence, Haas must lead Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) against Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) in the converged data center market, were all the major hardware suppliers are jockeying for position ahead of VMworld 2012 (Aug. 26-30, San Francisco).Haas arrives at Dell during a critical time. The PC giant today cut its profit outlook for the current year amid fierce competition from Lenovo; weak overall worldwide PC demand; and the wait for Windows 8.
Still, Dell has a growing portfolio of enterprise-class solutions — including such acquired businesses as EqualLogic, Compellent and Force10 Networks.
Haas most recently was with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. (KKR), an investment firm. But he’s better known as Hewlett-Packard’s former senior VP and worldwide general manager of the HP Networking Division, where under his leadership HP more than tripled its annual networking revenue, a Dell statement said.
