iboss Network Security today announced its MobileEther integrated mobile device management (MDM) solution now supports single-step device enrollment of Apple (AAPL) devices in the cloud through the Apple Device Enrollment Program (DEP).

This San Diego-based network security company said the integration with Apple DEP allows IT professionals to manage Apple devices in the cloud, saving IT resources and ensuring accurate policy enforcement.

“The adoption of Apple devices across industries is improving employee productivity but creating a whole new set of challenges on the backend for IT departments,” iBoss CEO Paul Martini said in a prepared statement. “The addition of Apple DEP support streamlines device enrollment, saving IT departments hundreds of hours while also increasing security, ensuring accurate policy enforcement and providing device protection.”

MobileEther combines traditional MDM and advanced web security to prevent data loss and increase visibility across applications and web traffic via a single console.

iboss noted this MDM solution can help organizations in several ways, including:

  • Allowing IT to set up and apply policies before turning on devices

  • Automatically re-enrolling devices even if they are reset to factory defaults (i.e. lost/stolen)

  • Providing bulk management for serial numbers and synchronizing them with DEP to specific device groups

The integration also provides an additional layer of security by transparently binding each device with user-specific web and application security policies.

How does Apple DEP work?

Apple DEP is part of the Apple Deployment Programs that are designed to help businesses and schools deploy and manage Apple devices and provides “a fast, streamlined way to deploy institutionally owned iPad and iPhone devices and Mac computers that are purchased directly from Apple.”

The program’s features include:

  • Mandatory and secure MDM enrollment

  • Setup support

  • The ability to automate MDM enrollment for every device

  • Wireless supervision

iboss said MobileEther with support for Apple DEP enables out-of-box MDM for Apple and Mac devices that an organization purchases and distributes.
