MSPAlliance, the international association of cloud and managed service providers, has formed a new commission on data privacy and security. It’s a committee of technology vendors that will work with the IT channel community and MSPAlliance board to shape, guide and promote data privacy and security best-practices in the managed services and cloud industry worldwide.

"The Commission members of the MSPAlliance are very eager to roll up our sleeves and do what we can to tackle the issues of trust, transparency and standards as it pertains to security, data storage and privacy in our global industry," said Stephan Tallent, director of MSSPs Americas, Fortinet, and a committee member.

Other members of the commission include Kevin Schoonover, director of engineering, Arrow; David Duncan, CMO, Webroot; Elaine McKinney, global director of privacy and compliance, AVG; John Burgess, president, Mainstream Technologies; and Michael Corey, CEO, Ntirety.

The commission plans to address globally accepted standards on disclosure, transparency, data privacy, security and best practices; develop channel- and end-user-focused marketing strategies around data privacy and security for cloud and managed service provider environments; address global challenges of "country specific" cloud regulation and data privacy/security pressures; address loss-of-revenue issues related to public cloud vendors and governmental surveillance programs; produce guidelines and examples on the use and implementation of secure technologies; and work with the analyst community to create white papers, research reports and data analysis and metrics.
