PRESS RELEASE — CHESEAUX, Switzerland and PHOENIX, Oct. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Kudelski Security, a trusted advisor and cybersecurity innovator for the world’s most security-conscious organizations, today launched a research unit dedicated to driving the most effective cybersecurity programs possible for enterprises and public sector institutions. Called Kudelski Security Research, the global team helps clients overcome security challenges by offering a new standard of analysis in areas ranging from custom research on threat identification, emerging threat countermeasures and best-practices on encryption and data protection.
The unit will be led by Kudelski Security’s Director of Research, Ryan Spanier, who recently joined the company after serving as head of threat intelligence at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.
“The creation of this advanced research unit is another example of the depth and commitment Kudelski Security is bringing to our cybersecurity clients,” said Rich Fennessy, chief executive officer, Kudelski Security. “The expansion of our focus on custom research, solution development and the depth of capabilities in our Advanced Labs further differentiates our ability to work with clients to counter the rapidly evolving threat landscape.”{ad}
Kudelski Security Research has a deeply-rooted engineering heritage from the Kudelski Group (SIX: KUD.S), a world leader in digital security services and conditional access security solutions. The new unit will leverage the proven research and development capabilities of Kudelski’s Advanced Labs and Innovation Center in Switzerland, along with the company’s years of expertise delivering security solutions to global enterprises. Spanier and his team – which will include the guidance of Chief Technology Officer Andrew Howard – will conduct fundamental and applied research into the most advanced threats, countermeasures and complex challenges faced by global enterprises.
While the new unit will offer custom research to meet specific client needs, it will also fortify Kudelski Security’s products and services, enhancing security capabilities in key areas. The research will fuel its world-class advisory services, adding support to a framework that already provides clients with mature cybersecurity programs and guidance to effectively allocate resources and improve their security posture. Kudelski Security Research’s findings will be used to shape and create new solutions that flatter a best-of-breed technology approach. The research will also be used to further develop next-gen managed services, such as the company’s acclaimed Cyber Fusion Centers, which go beyond 24/7 threat monitoring to …

Based in Atlanta, the Kudelski Security Research leadership team is uniquely qualified with members having worked in Kudelski’s labs and/or led teams involving hundreds of researchers serving both private and public sector companies, globally. In addition to Howard and Spanier, key team leadership includes Principal Cryptographer Jean-Philippe Aumasson and Vice President of Innovation and Labs Joel Conus.
“This research unit will enable our clients to stay ahead of the most critical cybersecurity concerns facing businesses today,” said Howard. “Not only will this lead to the delivery of the powerful security programs, we expect to introduce bleeding-edge solutions and customer-oriented services that will establish a new security benchmark. Furthermore, with the highly talented team of experts we’ve assembled, we’re confident the resulting research and advances will be beneficial to organizations worldwide.”{ad}
Kudelski Security Research will be exploring partnerships with leading research institutions to augment its capabilities in the coming months. The unit also expects to present its findings at major conferences and release details publicly in order to support global security advancements.
The launch of Kudelski Security Research comes on the heels of Kudelski Security’s expansion into the U.S. market. The company provides world-class advisory services delivered through four core areas: Strategy and Governance; Threat, Vulnerability and Risk Management; Incident Response and Cyber Resilience; and Strategic Cyber Staffing.
