It seems a little overkill to me, since ftopia already uses SSL, SAS 70 Type II infrastructure, plus a bevy of other encryption and security layers, but I suppose you can’t be too safe. All the security layers in the world won’t protect against viruses and malware. That’s why Panda Security is adding a layer of malware protection. Plus, Panda’s cloud-based security technology allows for realtime detection of evolving malware threats.
The bigger picture? If you store that document in the cloud, you’re also storing any malware that may be attached to it. That awareness that cloud collaboration must be done both securely and safely is an important one. (It would be interesting to see how much malware lives inside Dropbox folders — if any.)
Panda Security sees its partnership with ftopia as a natural and complimentary evolution for the growing demand of nebulous file-sharing. Panda’s anti-malware protection is at this very moment for all ftopia account holders.
