Just a few months ago, Pivot3, the hyperconverged infrastructure vendor, extended its Pivot3 Cloud Edition to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the purpose of backup and archive — it was the vendor’s first public cloud offering. The company on Tuesday announced workload mobility and disaster recovery to public clouds across AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, as part of its multiphased hybrid-cloud strategy.

The latest offering allows users to migrate any application workload and data to AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, and then be able to stand that up as a disaster-recovery environment as needed.

Pivot3’s channel partners now have an additional set of tools to offer, allowing them to help their customers implement a more simple and automated multicloud environment, Mike Koponen, senior director, products and solutions at Pivot3, said.

“Many enterprises are using a combination of private and public clouds because they are optimized for different workloads, security, performance and infrastructure cost models. Customers don’t want to be locked into a single public cloud provider,” said John Spiers, executive vice president of strategy, Pivot3. “To simplify this, we are delivering a straightforward and proven solution with a software stack that gives customers the capability to centrally manage their applications and data across multiple clouds, with the flexibility to migrate workloads from cloud to cloud as business requirements change. Customers can also back up and recover from any cloud with near-zero recovery point objectives and recovery time objectives.”

A partnership between Pivot3 and CloudEndure, a vendor of workload mobility and disaster recovery technology, has enabled the latest Pivot3 offering.

“We elected after a long research cycle of talking to lots of players in this space, to partner with them so we could quickly bring this to market,” Koponen told us.

Pivot3 will resell the CloudEndure software. The vendor also will be the first line of support for customers, offering the complete solution — including its own hyperconverged solution on premises and the CloudEndure cloud software. Pivot3 also will deliver professional services.

The two vendors will do collaborative engineering to more tightly integrate what CloudEndure is doing with Pivot3’s intelligent hybrid cloud engine, Koponen said.

Today’s announcement is part of the vendor’s hybrid cloud strategy. Partners can expect to see additional announcements made throughout the year, he added.
