Symantec Beefs Up Cloud Security with Luminate Acquisition

Symantec‘s latest acquisition is Israel’s Luminate Security, a private company focused on software defined perimeter (SDP) technology.

The cybersecurity giant said the acquisition strengthens its leadership in cloud security, delivering private, secure application access to all users, and securing access to workloads and applications regardless of where those workloads are deployed or through which infrastructure they are accessed.

Gerry Grealish, Symantec’s head of product marketing, network security, tells Channel Partners both Gartner and Forrester have highlighted the increasing demand for SDP technologies like Luminate’s Secure Access Cloud.

“For our partners, not only are we enhancing our Integrated Cyber Defense portfolio with an innovative secure application access technology that has its own unique benefits, but we’ll also be adding unique technology integrations that will enhance its value even more,” he said. “Our channel partners tell us that our integrated platform message is resonating with their customers, and the integration of Luminate’s Secure Access Cloud with technologies like our Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP), Web Security Service (WSS), and Cloud Access Security Broker Services opens up additional sales opportunities for the channel.”

The Secure Access Cloud service is available immediately.

Luminate was part of Symantec’s Technology Integration Partner Program prior to the acquisition and shared some channel partners with Symantec. Luminate partners will have the opportunity to evaluate joining Symantec’s Secure One partnership program.

“The plan is for the partner ecosystems to merge,” Grealish said. “More details on the process and timeline will be made available in the coming months.”

Symantec said the acquisition continues its strategy of acquiring and building “best-of-breed” security across its portfolio, with a “particular focus on born-in-the-cloud, for-the-cloud innovations.” Last November, Symantec announced it had acquired Appthority and Javelin Networks as key technology integrations for its Integrated Cyber Defense platform.
