VMware Adds Proofpoint Security Service to Zimbra Platform

VMware (NYSE: VMW) has deployed a suite of solutions from security-as-a-service provider Proofpoint (NASDAQ: PFPT) for its Zimbra email, calendar and collaboration platform, including enhanced archiving, data protection and compliance.

The virtualization vendor said it implemented Proofpoint’s security solutions to automate and streamline its current system, save money and enact an archiving system that integrates with Exchange and Zimbra.

“Proofpoint will be instrumental in helping us set up a more efficient archiving process to meet compliance regulations and speed up responses to ediscovery requests,” said Mark Egan, VMware chief information officer. “We wanted an affordable email archiving and management solution with minimal end-user interaction, search and off-site storage capabilities and an efficient legal preservation process. Proofpoint has provided security for our email for years and has proven to be a trustworthy partner.”

Proofpoint also has collaborated with VMware to provide Zimbra users with enhanced eDiscovery, compliance and email security, the company said.

A number of Proofpoint offerings, such as Proofpoint Enterprise Archive and Proofpoint Enterprise Protection are compatible with Zimbra, and provide customers with advanced threat protection, spam detection, phishing protection, data privacy, virus protection, dynamic email reputation and data loss-prevention capabilities. Proofpoint Enterprise Privacy is also compatible with Zimbra.

Proofpoint Enterprise Archive is a cloud-based service that works with Zimbra to archive email, IM and social media content. The Proofpoint Enterprise Protection virtual appliance delivers inbound and outbound email security and management features in one solution. The Proofpoint Enterprise Privacy virtual appliance suite provides data loss prevention for private information in email, defends against leaks of confidential information and assists Zimbra users with certain compliance regulations.

VMware is promoting its new Zimbra 8.0 messaging and collaboration vehicle to partners, backing the release with a special demand-generation campaign to urge solution providers to migrate customers from legacy platforms either to a cloud-based or on-premise edition of the software.
