Webroot CMO: Signature-Based Endpoint Security Solutions 'Dead'
Webroot Chief Marketing Officer David Duncan discussed his company's cloud-based security solution during LabTech Software's Automation Nation 2014 in Orlando.
Webroot Chief Marketing Officer David Duncan today declared traditional signature-based endpoint security solutions “dead,” following on Symantec’s recent declaration that antivirus software was dead.
Duncan shared his thoughts on signature-based endpoint security and Webroot’s solution today during his presentation at LabTech Software‘s Automation Nation 2014 in Orlando.
Duncan said Webroot has developed a cloud-based security solution that provides real-time information and does not require hardware or software.
Webroot’s SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection is designed to deliver instantaneous cloud-predictive malware protection.
“At Webroot, we provide security that frankly doesn’t suck,” Duncan told Automation Nation attendees.
He also noted Webroot has “the industry’s smallest footprint on any device,” and the company’s cloud-based security solution delivers real-time endpoint protection.
“The traditional signature-based approaches to endpoint security are dead,” Duncan said. “We need real-time ways to monitor security.”
Simon Hunt, McAfee‘s (MFE’s) vice president and chief technology officer of endpoint solutions, recently told CIO Magazine he also believes signature-based endpoint security solutions are no longer viable.
“We are seeing about 150,000 new pieces of malware every day now,” Hunt said. “The attack is just impossible and we’re purely on the defensive. Before we know about any new virus, somebody has to be a sacrificial lamb and die and tell us about it. It’s an awful way of doing things.”
