360networks Selects Infinera for Regional Network
October 8, 2007
360networks selected Infinera Corp. for its regional network in the western United States. Infinera will bring the speed and flexibility of its digital optical networks to support 360networks business and service offerings.
Infineras digital optical networks architecture will enable 360networks to offer services cost effectively in many markets throughout the region, including Tier 1 through Tier 4 cities. Infineras digital architecture allows bandwidth virtualization whereby optical services, including SONET, Ethernet, 2.5gbps and 10gbps services, can be delivered without regard to the optical characteristics of underlying wavelengths. Bandwidth virtualization allows 360networks to deliver services more quickly and flexibly than it could with traditional transponder-based DWDM systems, said Infinera.
The Infinera DTN is architected to combine the scalability of high-capacity DWDM transport, the flexibility of digital bandwidth management, and the intelligence of digital GMPLS network automation in a single platform, said Infinera.
Infinera was chosen for our underlying transport infrastructure because it allows 360networks to quickly penetrate new markets and shorten provisioning timeframes with no impacts on service assurance, said Mark Maroney, 360networks director of engineering. The combination of simple bandwidth additions and true point-and-click provisioning on the Infinera DNA network management system allows us to recognize significant operational cost savings.”
360networks owns and operates an optical network spanning 17,200 route-miles and linking 18 states and 48 metropolitan markets in the United States. 360networks offers VoIP, private line, dedicated Internet access and wavelength services.
