Actiontec Upgrades VoSKY Exchange Gateway

Actiontec Electronics on Thursday unveiled a new generation of VoSKY Exchange, its family of PBX-to-Skype gateways.

ABP Technology is the first distributor to sign with Actiontec to sell the devices, the companies announced at the Internet Telephony Conference & Expo.

The gateways allow businesses to use their standard desktop phones for making, and receiving, long-distance and international calls using the Skype service. The new 9140/9180 series adds remote access to Exchange-based Skype lines for users who are out of the office. It also comes with a new PBX connectivity strategy that reduces costs, Actiontec said. Line-side (FXO) connectivity to the PBX replaces the trunk-side (FXS) connection required in earlier models. Finally, the upgraded versions enable global call transfers over Skype, meaning calls can be transferred to any phone number inside or outside the corporate office or to any Skype user name.

The VoSKY Exchange 9140 works with four Skype lines, while the 9180 accommodates eight lines. VoSKY Exchange is a rack-mountable, PBX voice gateway. Multiple Exchange boxes can be set up in company offices worldwide to enable free calls among colleagues.

SkypeOut calls to landline or mobile phones do incur low per-minute rates.

The first generation of VoSKY Exchange solved the problem of Skype-enabling the PBX, the second added a rack-mountable form factor and extensive reporting capabilities, and our new convenience and connectivity features make it even easier to integrate Skype into the enterprise in order to reap the cost savings of Internet communications, said David Tang, director of VoIP product development for Actiontec.
