Atlantax Systems Inc. (Booth 322) announces it has formed a new company, Rhodus Systems Inc. (RSI). RSI’s primary purpose will be to license a proprietary state and local tax compliance software package to companies with multijurisdictional sales, use and telecommunications tax filing responsibilities. Atlantax will continue as a state and local tax compliance and consulting company supporting long-distance resellers, wireless, CLECs, prepaid services, billing companies and emerging markets.

"It has become clear that over the 11 years we have been in business, Atlantax has evolved into two separate and distinct businesses: One, a service bureau tax compliance company; the other a software and data processing company. The differences in sales, marketing, support and other corporate functions involved in these two distinct businesses are significant," says Gary T. Rhodus, president and CEO of Atlantax. "With our new business structure, resources will be more readily focused on the specific needs of our diverse client base, and on meeting the increased demands of state and local legislation."

In conjunction with the formation of RSI, RSI has entered into a contract with The Progeni Corp. (Progeni) to provide design and reengineering support services for RSI’s current TaxPac software. Rhodus said Progeni was selected as RSI’s partner in this effort because of its proven track record of safely transferring corporate applications so they seamlessly reappear on a specific target platform, or across multiple platforms for use throughout an enterprise.

More states are moving toward acceptance and adoption of the recommendations of the Streamlined Sales Tax Project. This legislation requires all tax compliance software providers to be ready with state-of-the-art, certifiable compliance solutions. Through RSI’s partnership with Progeni, the company will be prepared to meet these requirements by further refining its current software.

RSI’s TaxPac provides service providers with the tools they need to easily manage taxation in house, reconciling records and facilitating proper state and local filings. RSI will operate out of Atlantax’s Atlanta headquarters.
