CompTIA Intros Strata Computing Fundamentals Certificate

CompTIA introduced at its annual Breakaway conference – that opened today in Las Vegas – the CompTIA Strata, a new credential that offers individuals a broad introduction to computing technology.

“Strata answers the need for learning about the core terminology, uses and types of technology deployed today,” said Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO, CompTIA. “It will serve as a critical stepping stone to technical learning and a benchmark of foundational-level IT skills.”

CompTIA Strata is intended for students pursuing an IT education; individuals considering CompTIA A+ certification; and individuals seeking a deeper understanding of technology. Exam topics covered include technology and computer hardware basics; compatibility issues and common errors; software installation and functions; security risks and prevention; green IT and preventative maintenance.

“Strata is an on-ramp to a career in technology, something students can use to gauge if they have the aptitude and interest for IT,” said Terry Erdle, senior vice president, skills certifications, CompTIA. “With the basic understanding of PC and networking fundamentals made possible by Strata, students will have confidence to pursue more advanced skills certifications, and have a valuable credential to prove to prospective employers that they’re ready to enter the IT workforce.”

Localized versions of the CompTIA Strata curriculum and exams are already being delivered in the United Kingdom in cooperation with leading UK awarding body, Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations, as well as in China and India. Availability in North America is scheduled for October.
