Alteva, the operator that owns UC and VoIP provider Alteva LLC, has named David Cuthbert as its new CEO.

Cuthbert replaces Duane Albro. The change took effect yesterday as part of a succession plan.

Cuthbert served as CEO and president of Alteva LLC since August 2012 and was being groomed for Albro’s job. Albro will remain a board director until the company holds its annual shareholders meeting in May.

Cuthbert came to the telecom industry from the Navy. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and rounded out his career in the Special Operators unit before leaving the military branch in 2006. He then joined Alteva LLC as operators director.

Alteva LLC was purchased in 2011 by Warwick Valley Telephone Co., which started using the Alteva name for all its subsidiaries this past January.
