Damaka has introduced Kalisto, its high-definition videoconferencing service that runs on any type of device, from desktops to mobile devices.

The software solution, which is based on SIP standards and is licensed to SMBs, combines video communications with collaboration features for a comprehensive telepresence solution, according to the company. It can be used with desktops, laptops and mobile devices including those based on Android, iOS, Symbian, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile platforms.

It is a software solution that gets loaded onto the mobile devices, which is then capable of participating with the Kalisto solution on the high-end laptops or desktops,” said Siva Chaturvedi, CEO of Damaka. The mobile software solution is also based on SIP standards. It is as simple as adding the mobile user as a buddy to the laptop user. If your buddy is online, you can simply launch a high-def to standard-def/low-def video session.”

The current release is based on peer-to-peer architecture, enabling up to four users concurrently. Subsequent releases will be server-based and so will allow 20 or more users, Chaturvedi said.

The company, which is currently working on partnering with OEMs and resellers, is marketing Kalisto for companies of all sizes, but believes Kalistos price makes it a good fit in the SMB and SOHO markets especially.

Its [sold at] a very competitive price point,” Chaturvedi said. Kalistos HD software can be licensed for $500 per user (per laptop/desktop) and the price will further lower with volume orders. Mobile clients are priced around $75-$100 per mobile device.”
