Digium Inc. said Wednesday it has acquired Sokol & Associates LLC, a provider of training for Asterisk users and producer of the AstriCon open source conference. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Digium said the deal gives it an additional way to communicate Asterisk enhancements to the IT, telephony, software development, reseller and call center professionals who use the software. Digium created Asterisk, an open-source telephony communications software that is used by more than 2 million servers.

Sokol & Associates General Manager Steve Sokol and his team have joined Digium, a company that has more than 10 years of experience in the VoIP industry. Sokol will take responsibility for planning future software offerings from Digium.

Weve been such an active part of the Asterisk community for years that joining Digium seemed like the logical next step for our group, said Sokol.
