Ex-Windstream Channel Chief Dan Sterling Gets a New Job

Former Windstream channel chief Dan Sterling has landed a new job.

Sterling now serves as president of Green Cloud Technologies, a startup founded by Shay Houser, who also created NuVox. Sterling worked as channel chief at NuVox, and retained that role when Windstream bought NuVox in late 2009. As head of Windstream’s channel, Sterling won Channel Partners’ Channel Executive of the Year award in 2009 and earned a finalist slot in 2010 and 2011. However, after 14 collective years with NuVox and Windstream, Sterling found himself out of a job last summer.

Now, though, Sterling is back, and in charge of a company that sells only through the indirect channel. He also rejoins a number of former Windstream and NuVox colleagues, including Stephen Rieck, Greg Eckley and Charles Houser, Green Cloud’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. Greenville, S.C.-headquartered Green Cloud provides hosted VoIP based on the Broadsoft platform, as well as cloud-based virtual servers and mirror-imaged disaster recovery based on Flexpod from Cisco and NetApp. Sterling oversees sales, marketing and field support.

Shay Houser, CEO of Green Cloud, said Sterling “brings great energy and passion to this key leadership position. He has a wealth of leadership experience in the telecom channel and his strategic sales and marketing acumen will have an enormous impact on the company’s future.”

Green Cloud has been expanding quickly since launching last year. In the last six months, the company has opened offices in Charleston, S.C., Nashville, Tenn., and Tampa, Fla., and has added 17 executive management and support personnel.
