The FCC has named the newest members of its Technological Advisory Council (TAC), many of whom are from the telecom industry. The TAC provides technical advice to the FCC, making recommendations on issues such as wireless device security and cyber security.


The councils first meeting is set for tomorrow, followed by one in July and one in October.


Some of the TACs new members are: Steve Alexander, CTO of Ciena Corp.; Len Barlik, vice president of technology research and development for Sprint Corp.; Jules Bellisio of Telcordia Technologies; Vint Cerf, senior vice president of architecture and technology at MCI Corp.; Mark Coblitz, senior vice president of strategic planning for Comcast Corp.; Bill Hancock, chief security officer of SAVVIS; William OShea, president of Bell Laboratories and CTO of Lucent Technologies; Ted Rappaport of Wireless Valley Communication; and William Smith, CTO of BellSouth Corp.


Robert Lucky, is the TACs chairman and also works for Telcordia Technologies.
