iPhone 6, 6 Plus Pre-Orders Exceed Supply: Some Customers Will Have to Wait Until October

Apple Inc. says it has taken a record number of first-day pre-orders for its two new iPhone 6 models.

The behemoth company says it fielded more than 4 million total pre-orders the first 24 hours the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were on sale.

But not all of those devices will be delivered on Friday – that’s the first day the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus will be available in the United States and nine other countries. Some customers will have to wait for their gadgets into October because demand is exceeding pre-order supply, Apple said.

Still, both iPhone 6s will be available to customers at Apple’s retail stores as of Friday at 8 a.m. local time. And, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and other carriers will have the phones available in their stores, as will some Apple authorized resellers.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus feature Retina HD displays, the Apple-designed A8 chip with second generation 64-bit desktop-class architecture for faster performance and better power efficiency; advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras; and Apple Pay. The new devices run on iOS 8, which comes with new messaging and photo features, the Health app, iCloud Drive and more.
