MCI Wholesale Debuts VoIP Gateway Services
February 15, 2005
MCI Wholesale Network Services (Booth 201) is introducing SIP and TDM voice gateway services that transport VoIP media between IP networks and the PSTN. These new services will allow MCI wholesale customers to offer VoIP telephony products and services to their end subscribers.
Both gateway products include full E911 throughout the entire MCI offering area, which encompasses 40 states in the United States. Not only are 911 calls routed to the appropriate public safety answering point as with standard local telephone service, MCIs products also deliver the specific address of the telephone numbers physical location.
MCIs services also provide fundamental functions, such as operator services, directory assistance, directory listings and access to the line-identification database. MCIs service is compliant with current local-number portability requirements, and because these services use standard telephone numbers, calls can be originated from or terminated to anywhere in the world.
Like MCIs wholesale local product suite, the TDM and SIP gateway services are available throughout 40 states and reach more than 51 percent of the U.S. population, based on MCIs CLEC U.S. footprint. The TDM gateway is ideal for wholesale customers
that already have purchased media gateway equipment or desire speed to market. The SIP gateway service targets those wholesalers that already have established SIP signaling on their networks or that have not invested in their own media gateways. Both TDM and SIP gateway services will be available in the third quarter of 2005. TDM gateway service will be available generally, with the SIP service available initially in selected sales channels. MCI Wholesale Network Services is a division of MCI Inc.
