Microtech-Tel Changes Its Name

Microtech-Tel, a 25-year-old brand in the channel, this week officially changed its name to NewCloud Networks.

Denver-based NewCloud has offered cloud services since 2011 and chose a new moniker that better reflects its portfolio.

“Nothing has changed except the name. This is not an acquisition or buyout of any kind,” said founder Sam Kumar. We are operating from the same office with the same employees our customers have come to know. Most of NewClouds services are offered in the cloud, hence the name ‘NewCloud Networks.'”

Along with the name change, NewCloud has other updates in store. For example, the company plans to add a Phoenix data center to its roster this month and build more cloud pods in Chicago, Dallas, New York, New Jersey and Las Vegas. NewCloud said the locations will be connected via a 10GB MPLS network, creating a private backbone.

Most of NewCloud’s cloud offerings are IaaS-centric, from virtual servers and backup to disaster recovery and virtual desktops. The company also provides some cloud communications services, including hosted PBX, and managed services to accompany all of its products.

Finally, NewCloud said it will expand its channel throughout this year and move into more markets. It targets small to mid-sized enterprises with 25-1,000 employees.

Microtech-Tel built its business model on connectivity including T-1s and VoIP.
