Mitel Networks Corp. announced Monday that it has completed integration of its Unified Communicator Advanced (UCA) client softphone software with VMware Zimbra, an enterprise-class email, calendar and collaboration solution.
The integration between Zimbra 8 and Mitel’s UCA is deployable in both public and private cloud models. Zimbra 8 features a redesigned user interface with embedded Mitel UCC functionality, aimed at allowing users with an existing UCC solution to connect their voice and message systems in a unified inbox, while being able to access UCC functionality, including click-to-call, visual voice mail and access to call history.
Scalar Decisions, an IT solutions integrator, has implemented the Mitel/Zimbra solution with customers and has standardized on it for its own operations.
“This integrated solution enables us to deliver the best possible user experience to every employee in our company,” said Paul Kerr, president of Scalar Decisions. “It’s everything that integrated communications should be: open, intuitive, seamless, fast, and effective.”
This is the latest integration with VMware. Earlier this month, Mitel and Vidyo integrated UC and video conferencing with VMware View virtual desktop. VMware and Mitel announced last year that they have enabled streaming virtualized voice to a virtual desktop without significant performance and latency issues.
The companies are demonstrating the solution this week at VMworld 2012, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
