Narus Inc. has partnered with Giza Systems, a systems integrator, to deliver a turn-key solution to a Middle Eastern telco for the detection and management of voice over IP traffic.
They discovered they had 20,000 calls avoiding the circuit-switched network, says Jay Thomas, vice president of product marketing at Narus. And they were losing $100,000 a day.
Narus will provide its IP Platform to Giza to implement in the Tier 1 carrier. The platform performs granular data collection and real-time analytics in a total network view, so the telco can detect VoIP traffic within the national borders as well as that traveling to other parts of the world. Ultimately, the carrier plans to bill for the service, which is consuming network resources, and blocking disruptive traffic.
