Nextlink Wireless, the broadband wireless services division of XO Holdings Inc., has hired Robert E. Beran as its new CEO.

Beran also becomes a senior vice president at XO Holdings, reporting to XO CEO Carl J. Grivner.

Beran comes to Nextlink from First Avenue Networks, where he was senior vice president of operations. He oversaw aspects including service delivery, network management, field services and customer care.

Bob is a proven leader and is a great addition to lead Nextlink, said Grivner. He has a broad background of telecommunications experience that includes leading wireline and wireless operations and is a seasoned fixed wireless industry executive. I am confident he will build on the strong momentum that has already been created and further advance Nextlinks position in the marketplace.

Prior to First Avenue Networks, Beran served as an advisor to several early-stage technology companies through his consulting firm. He also has participated as a founding principal in several communications ventures. Before that, he held senior executive management positions with General Electric and Bell Atlantic/Verizon, where he developed and led several business units in telecom, Internet, video, wireless and publishing/information services sectors.
