IP UNITY, GALLERY IP LAUNCH MESSAGING, CONFERENCING, PREPAID FOR CABLECOS

IP Unity Corp. and Gallery IP Telephony Inc. have completed
interoperability testing between IP Unitys unified messaging, audio/Web
conferencing and prepaid services applications, and Gallery IPs CAssiopeia
softswitch. The combined technology equips cable companies with a suite of
enhanced voice services as they roll out cable telephony services.

Parity of service with the incumbent carriers is not enough
to entice subscribers away from their existing phone provider, says Keith
Bhatia, senior vice president of business development for IP Unity. Cable
telephony operators need to compete on price, product bundles and customized
enhanced services to win this battle. Several major cable companies have started
rolling out triple play offerings to the market, offering video, broadband
Internet and voice services on the same line. Adding unified messaging, prepaid services and audio/Web
conferencing applications to this bundle greatly enhances its appeal to
subscribers and takes the voice component of the triple-play offering to the
next level.

The unified messaging suite offers standard voice mail
features, and subscribers may integrate voice mail with e-mail, receiving voice
messages as .wav files in their e-mail inboxes and accessing e-mails through a
telephone using IP Unitys text-to-speech technology. Subscribers also can use
the Web interface during conference calls to access additional features such as
PowerPoint slide sharing and text messaging.

The suite utilizes the media servers digital signal mixing
and quality monitoring to ensure that only the three strongest signals are
carried on the conference bridge, dramatically improving sound quality, says IP
Unity.

The joint Gallery IP and IP Unity prepaid calling platform
allows cable operators to track usage and bill in real time.

VOYANT OFFERS NEW
FEATURES, PLATFORM OCI

Voyant Technologies has introduced a recording and playback
service and a new release of its OCI platform for service providers.

The new recording service gives end users the ability to
record a call and then make it available to those unable to participate. For use
with a reservationless or operator-attended call, the virtually live
digital audio copy of the session is available later by phone or subscriber Web
portal. The sessions are delivered in a variety of formats, including CDs,
transcripts and translation.

Voyant also has a new release of its OCI voice conferencing
platform, acquired through Voyants merger with Octave Communications in
January. The latest release extends previous reservationless and high-touch
features by upgrading to a Microsoft Windows-based Operator Console.

Release highlights include a 42 percent higher call arrival
rate than in previous releases, an operator console that can respond to operator
commands on calls with more than 28 operators and 800 participants, new fraud
alarm features to prevent unauthorized usage; an improved interface, decreasing hold time;
and enhanced billing options, allowing service providers to
collect an additional billing code, such as a case number or a project code.
