VERAZ RELEASES CONTROLSWITCH

Veraz Networks is offering a new upgrade to ControlSwitch Release, version 5.5. The company says this release allows rapid delivery of revenue-generating services, flexibility for open platforms, improved IP interconnect and billing support across continents.

Veraz says version 5.5 delivers one of the most advanced softswitch solutions for carriers and service providers to accelerate the migration to multimedia services. The centrally managed, distributed ControlSwitch offers pretested building blocks and uses XML scripting and a multitiered design.

Veraz says the introduction framework combines the programmability potential of the mediation layer (such as for on-the-fly SS7 variant customization), programmability of the service logic (for on-the-fly service logic creation), and the policy layer to enable on-the-fly “behavior” change as to how, when and who can use a service.

MAPINFO INTRODUCES PREDICTIVE ANALYTICS

MapInfo Corp. has introduced a locationbased demographic analysis solution designed for telecommunications companies.

The Predictive Analytics technology helps companies analyze customers, new markets and potential adoption of new products or services. MapInfo says communications providers can make more informed decisions about marketing, budgeting, real estate, merchandising and operational plans by examining the distribution of demographic, competitive and behavioral characteristics.

MapInfo says Predictive Analytics helps answer questions about estimated customer support for network expansion, market potential, the number of retail outlets a specific area can support, how to position store locations and characteristics of a provider’s most profitable customers. Based on these answers, companies can reduce risks associated with market and network expansion, and develop specific messages that resonate with current and potential customers.

VERSATEL DEBUTS EDGEIQ

Versatel Networks Inc.’s new EdgeIQ platform distributes media gateway and media server capabilities to the edge of the network, where the company says they are most efficiently used. Versatel says EdgeIQ lowers service providers’ network, capital and operating expenses by up to 50 percent.

With the EdgeIQ platform, applications are hosted at the network edge, allowing services to be provided to PSTN and IP customers equally, reducing the cost of backhauling traffic from one network to the other. For service providers, this means fewer vendors to manage, easier maintenance, smoother upgrades and faster rollouts of new services.

Versatel’s patent-pending EdgeWerx architecture integrates the media server with the gateway, using fewer ports, especially when calls originate on the same gateway. Services using the Versatel model typically require 50 percent fewer ports than platforms using a traditional centralized media server model.

Versatel’s EdgeIQ products are available in two carrier-grade NEBS-compliant configurations. The IQ1500, suitable for smaller installations and remote nodes, scales up to 1,500 ports of capacity in any combination of IP or TDM ports. The IQ4000 is designed for large deployments, and scales to up 4,000 ports.
