Unified communications (UC) vendor Siemens Enterprise Communications on Wednesday introduced a new server that supports up to 500 of its OpenStage IP phones.

The HiPath Access 500, a 19-inch rack-mountable server, works with the HiPath 4000 enterprise voice platform, but targets SMBs that want the same features as their larger counterparts without the cost. Siemens will sell the hardware through authorized channel partners beginning Aug. 1.

HiPath Access 500 is IP-based but it works with certain analog, digital and DECT phones. That lets SMBs continue to use their old equipment and gives them an easy transition once theyre ready to upgrade. The server further works with branch office setups, providing complete access to all features as well as business continuity. The HiPath Access 500a comes with eight built-in analog ports, while the HiPath 500i has eight analog and eight BRI ports. Users can attach up to eight more HiPath Access modules to the Access 500.
