Skype Launches Video Calling for Apples iPhones

Less than 24 hours after rampant speculation forecasting a Skype-Apple team-up, Internet calling pioneer Skype today announced the release of an application that allows millions of people worldwide to make and receive video calls on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

The service is available on 3G and Wi-Fi networks and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, Luxembourg-based Skype announced.

Skype said the new application is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4^th generation with iOS 4.0 or above. Skypers also can receive video calls on the iPod touch 3^rd generation and iPad.

Founded in 2003, Skype offers peer-to-peer software that allows people to make calls over the Internet through computers, mobile phones and other connected devices. The company reports that as many as 25 million users are logged onto Skype at the same time during peak times.
