snom technology, an HP channel partner, says it will market and sell the computer giant’s Lync-optimized desktop IP phones.

snom will market and promote the HP 4110 and HP 4120 IP phones through its global network of distributors and resellers. snom and its partners begin selling the phones in June.

As the market for Microsoft Lync expands, businesses require the flexibility to deploy solutions that fit their specific needs, whether thats Lync-optimized devices or Lync-qualified devices,” said Michael Knieling, chief operating officer of snom technology AG in Berlin. We can offer more choices to our customers, whatever their needs may be.”

HP 4110 and 4120 IP phones are optimized for Lync, which means they are designed from the ground up according to Microsoft Lync specifications, and are pre-installed with Microsofts Lync software, work only in a Lync UC environment and feature tight integration with Microsoft applications, including calendars and contacts.

Lync-qualified phones such as snoms work in a Lync environment as well as an IP-PBX environment, are customizable, have their own firmware and may have their own unique calling features distinct from Lync.

By partnering with HP, snom says it will deliver to its customers certain enterprise capabilities PC/phone integration, click-to-call and Lync server integrated manageability. These features, currently unavailable on Lync-qualified devices, will also be uniquely available for snom UC edition phones later this year.

HP will provide tier 1 support for the phones; snom and its partners will be responsible for go-to-market activities, including sales and marketing.

HPs 4110 and 4120 join snoms lineup of Lync-qualified IP phones: the 3xx series, 7xx series and 8xx series UC edition phones.
