Teleglobe, which provides telecommunications services to carriers, ISPs, and fixed and mobile network operators, today launched Teleglobe Local Number Service.

The new service gives Teleglobe customers the ability to offer their clients local access DID numbers from Western Europe and North America in addition to the toll-free numbers used for conference calling, calling card, customer service and call center operations.

Teleglobe Local Number Service further provides end users with guaranteed access from mobile phones and payphones; toll-free numbers often are blocked by mobile operators and sometimes are not accessible via payphones.

Traffic can be delivered to customers via direct interconnection to any Teleglobe switch or PoP, as well as the PSTN of the termination country.

“Although we already offer our customers toll-free service from more than 100 countries of origin, this is yet another value-added service in our comprehensive voice portfolio that provides increased flexibility, thus illustrating our commitment to our customers’ business needs, said Christian Michaud, senior vice president of voice services for Teleglobe.

Local numbers can be purchased directly from Teleglobe or can be ported from third-party providers to Teleglobe. The product is now available from Western Europe and North America and new origins will be added throughout the year.
