TelePacific Goes National With SD-WAN

TelePacific has officially joined the SD-WAN craze.

The company announced Tuesday that it has integrated SD-WAN onto its network and has begun deploying the technology nationally.

“We’ve been working on SD-WAN for a year-and—a-half or more now,” said David Zahn, senior vice president of marketing, “We’ve been working on it in the context of delivering continuity solutions, leveraging the active technology that it enables, also allowing us to deliver hosted PBX over-the-top, being able to serve remote locations that might otherwise have a hard time connecting to an MPLS network, and a few other use cases that we were already working on.”

Zahn said TelePacific will benefit greatly from the ability to service customers outside of its traditional footprint. And its partners will also benefit from the newfound range, he said.

“We know that’s a really important aspect or requirement of the channel community. One of the top complaints we’ve gotten over the years from our agent advisors is that we’re not in more places,” he said.

Another important piece of the puzzle is TelePacific’s March acquisition of DSCI, which helps drastically expand the company’s reach. TelePacific has traditionally targeted California, Nevada and Texas, while DSCI is based in Massachusetts.  

“Over 150 channel partners have joined DSCI’s Channel Partner Program, including several master agents. They have been asking for national coverage from DSCI for many years, and the merging of DSCI and TelePacific will meet that demand,” said TelePacific Senior Vice President of Strategic Opportunities Ken Bisnoff at the time.

Zahn said DSCI’s new unified communications platform and managed-services strength will help TelePacific take advantage of additional SD-WAN capabilities, such as monitoring, application control and security. He said the company can deliver a combined UC platform and SD-WAN over-the-top thanks to DSCI.

The SD-WAN pilot will deploy in Colorado, Texas, New York, Washington state, Oklahoma and Florida. Zahn said the announcement should give members of the agent confidence about TelePacific’s ability to support nationwide networks.

“They’ll be able to sell TelePacific products and services in more places with the same quality that we otherwise would provide by delivering it on our access,” he said.
