VMware recently introduced the VMware Horizon Suite that allows IT departments to support their end users with a consistent delivery service of data and applications across the many devices they choose to use at work. Horizon Suite combines multiple new and existing desktop virtualization technologies, including Horizon Workspace, which combines data, applications and desktops into a single aggregated workspace that can be securely delivered on any device.
This technology is very exciting because—as many users can attest to—we are constantly switching between laptops, iPads and iPhones and want to be able to access our data, applications and desktop wherever we are. And we are not alone: A recent Forrester Research Inc. report revealed that 46 percent of employees surveyed were using laptops at work that were not issued or approved by their company. We anticipate this trend will continue as employees request to work on the device that they feel makes them the most productive.
VMware has been working closely with our Alliance community to endorse this shift to a mobile workforce. At our recent Partner Exchange in February, we made three exciting mobility announcements with our key alliances. Dell and VMware jointly announced a pre-integrated system designed for VMware-based virtual desktop infrastructure workloads. The Dell DVS Enterprise – Active System 800 with VMware Horizon View 5.2 combines server, storage, networking and infrastructure management into one solution that makes it easy for IT to deploy and manage virtual end user workloads.
Cisco is also active in the mobility virtualization arena. The company jointly announced with VMware two new VDI bundles that are pre-tested together and offered in single SKUs at a discounted price. The bundles are packaged based on company size and include VMware Horizon View licenses and Cisco UCS servers.
And finally, there is the joint VMware and EMC mobility solution that is packaged for EMC’s vSPEX channel program. The vSPEX architecture combines pre-tested EMC storage hardware with VMware Horizon View to provide a simple way for channel partners to provide their customers an outstanding remote mobile workforce solution.
VMware solution providers who are focused on providing compelling solutions to their customers should take a look at the joint offerings that are available in the market from VMware with Dell, Cisco and EMC.
Happy selling!
