Telecom industry veteran Jeffrey ‘Clay’ Garey, 39, died Sept. 8 following a short battle with cancer. Garey and his father, Richard, were instrumental in starting National Telephone Exchange (NTX), which was sold to USLD Communications. Garey was a computer analyst and network engineer for several long-distance telephone companies.

“I had the fortune of working with Clay at USLD,” says Steve Wagner, executive vice president of Grande Communications. “He was a dear friend - always full of life, upbeat, and a good father to his two kids. He will be missed by many of his friends within the industry.” Survivors include his wife, Kim; two sons, Jeffrey Collen Garey, 14, and Christian Conner Garey, 11; parents, Richard and Arlene Garey; brother, Chris Garey; sister, Jaci McCollum, and her husband, Cory.
