VoX Unveils Digital Video Phone Service

By Khali Henderson

Wholesale VoIP service provider VoX Communications Corp., a subsidiary of Pervasip, announced Wednesday the launch of its  Ojo Vision Digital Video Phone service as a home phone replacement to consumers and as a business-class solution to small and medium business customers.

The Ojo video phone was first introduced to the consumer market by WorldGate Communications Inc. in 2005 as the Ojo Personal Video Phone. The latest version, the Ojo Digital Video Phone, was released in September. WorldGate sells the phone/service directly and through OEM agreements with service providers like VoX. Earlier this month, WorldGate announced its plans to target the business market with its Ojo Provision digital video phone service.

Voxs Ojo Vision Digital Video Phone costs $249.95 with no service contract. VoX Digital Video Calling Plans start from $9.95 per month, including unlimited voice calling in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, unlimited free voice and video calling to other VoX customers, and low-rate international calling.

In addition to video calling, each plan includes traditional calling features like caller ID, call waiting and three-way calling. Three-way video conferencing, connecting to a large-screen LCD or TV and unlimited video calling also are included.

We have seen many video products over the years, and until now, none came up to our rigorous testing standards of quality it surpassed even our high expectations of what a video phone product should be,” said Pervasip CIO Mark Richards in a press statement. The user experience from the minute the phone is unboxed is painless, and the device brings immediate satisfaction to the consumer from the moment it is powered on.”

The Ojo Digital Video Phone requires as little as 150kbps of bandwidth in contrast to the 3 to 5mbps required by most video conferencing solutions.
