Waveleap, Cantata Deal Paves Way for Wholesale Protocol Conversion Services

Waveleap Communications, a company that provides IP-based call termination and conversion to service providers, is using Cantata Technologys IMG 1010 Integrated Media and Signaling VoIP Gateway in its network.

The deal is significant since Waveleap was looking to provide transcoding for multiple voice compression protocols; Cantatas gateway translates any protocol so networks can talk to one another. For example, it lets networks that use codecs such as G.711 and G.729 accept one anothers traffic. Waveleap is using the gateway in its new Xvon.net service, which targets carriers, aggregators, calling card companies and enterprises. Xvon.net is a hosted conversion service, meaning carriers and other entities can take advantage of the conversion capabilities without installing infrastructure of their own. Members of the Voice Peering Fabric, operated by Stealth Communications, already are users of Xvon.net.

The IMG 1010 gateway enables delivery of SIP services into legacy SS7/PRI networks, as well as IP-to-IP transcoding to connect IP networks using different protocols.

In little more than a year of commercial availability, the IMG 1010 has already been deployed by more than 55 carriers in 20 countries, spanning five continents, said Marc Zionts, CEO of Cantata Technology. We expect that deployment of the IMG 1010 as a transcoding resource and Waveleaps offering of the service to members of the Voice Peering Fabric will further increase demand for the product in 2007 and beyond.
