LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept. 14, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN), a leading provider of advanced network communications, has completed significant service upgrades in approximately 250 markets across 16 states, bringing faster Internet speeds of up to 100 megabits-per-second (Mbps) to residential and small business customers.

The expansion of faster Internet speeds is a major milestone in an extensive upgrade effort that’s been underway for several years. Windstream’s investment in new technologies and network upgrades brings faster, more reliable Internet speeds to the communities Windstream serves.

“We understand that whether customers are running a home or a small business, high speed Internet is absolutely critical,” said Sarah Day, Senior Vice President of Small Business and Consumer at Windstream. “Our investment in new technologies and network upgrades is an investment in the people and businesses we serve. We’re pleased to bring faster speeds to thousands of customers across 250 communities, and look forward to extending these upgrades to many more by end of year.”

Already underway, additional upgrades will bring speeds of up to 100Mbps to approximately 600 more markets by end of year. In total, Windstream is on track to make 50-100Mbps speeds available to nearly one million households and small businesses in more than 850 markets by end of year.

“We are thrilled to bring faster speeds to so much of our service area, and we are proud to invest in under-served communities,” added Day. “More often than not, we are the only service provider committing resources to these more rural areas, and through this upgrade plan many communities will be eligible for premium speeds for the first time.”

Premium speed availability is dependent upon geographic location. To find out if faster speeds are available for a specific home or small business, please visit windstream.com/premium-speed.
