WIP Launches WIPConnector Networking Resource
August 30, 2006
By Tara Seals
The Wireless Industry Partnership (WIP) launched this week a networking resource designed to help those throughout the wireless industry value chain find the right contacts, companies and resources to advance their businesses.
WIP’s three key focuses are linking networking developers to developer programs, connecting venture capital to wireless innovation and helping businesses with their business development initiatives, the organization said.
While it is designed for companies of all sizes, smaller wireless businesses and entrepreneurs are particular targets for WIP, which intends to help such companies easily find developers, venture capitalists, distribution channels, strategic partners and so on, and to allow others to find them.
WIPConnector, a set of tools and resources, can be found online at www.wipconnector.com. The portal includes tools and resources for wireless companies to reduce the time-to-market of their products and services, aid research and development initiatives, uncover channel opportunities and achieve other business benefits. Users can create a WIPConnector profile a virtual billboard advertisement and the portal also offers members a global forum to network with other wireless businesses, developers, experts, venture capitalists and academics. WIP plans to expand the functionality over the next six months.
Membership to WIP is available to companies and individuals at an introductory rate of $300 per year. WIPConnector is free for WIP members.
Innovation and commercialization and the nuances of achieving these in the wireless market are what I find so interesting in my work with wireless companies, said Caroline Lewko, WIP founder and CEO. There is so much for new wireless companies to consider given the ranges of tools, developer communities, regulatory environments, standards, carrier personalities, investors and more; the wireless industry is not for the faint of heart. I’ve worked with hundreds of startups, and funded and advised over 100, and understanding the complicated and challenging waters they need to navigate in order to become successful is the motivation behind developing WIPConnector.
