MasterMind Boosts Asia’s Prepaid with Smart
Deal

Another half-million subscribers can now sign up for
prepaid wireless in Asia, as MasterMind Technologies has agreed to a $1.7
million contract with Sysnet Integrators to buy a minimum of six MM7, NT-based,
high-density fault-tolerant service platforms.

The deal will permit Philippines’ Smart Telecom to expand its customer capacity, where the demand for prepaid wireless is soaring.

Smart Telecom installed MasterMind’s MM7 platforms in September 1999, when it launched its “Smart Buddy” prepaid GSM cellular service. This was so successful, the firm now serves more than 300,000 users, and is growing at a rate of 3,000 subscribers per day.

MasterMind’s uniquely designed MM7 platform has helped Smart Telecom become the leading source for prepaid wireless in the Philippines.

MM7 is a fault-tolerant, highly scalable switching and telephony services platform. It uses SS7 signaling to communicate seamlessly with the publicly switched telephone networks. Because MM7 uses the latest technologies for network interface and application development, its use also is economical, which is ideal for the expanding prepaid market.

Smart Telecom uses the low cost as an aggressive marketing tool to sell at gas stations and grocery stores, while it promotes its service on MTV and through newspapers.
