Three North American telecom companies have joined the fledgling XConnect Network, an international VoIP interconnect service that launched last year from London.

Yak Communications, iBasis and NexTone Communications all have signed on to take advantage of the alliances traffic-exchange capabilities. International XConnect companies include Telio, VozTelecom and Gossiptel.

“XConnect’s entry into one of the most dynamic markets for VoIP telephony will further speed the adoption of VoIP, by making its benefits available to more people, says Eli Katz, founder and CEO of XConnect. The XConnect Network brings the vision of an all-IP rival to the PSTN one step closer, where a rich array of multimedia IP services [is] delivered without legacy termination charges.”

Canada-based Yak Communications is a service provider. Wholesale IP provider iBasis says working with XConnect expands its global reach. Meanwhile, NexTone, a provider of session management services, says its carriers will experience more partnership opportunities thanks to interoperability with XConnects network.
